Our Early Years programme is guided by the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC), a comprehensive, research-informed and internationally recognised curriculum designed to support the learning and development of young children.
The IEYC places the child at the centre of the learning process. It recognises that every child develops at a unique pace and that meaningful learning occurs when children are actively involved, curious and encouraged to explore the world around them. Through playful, holistic and developmentally appropriate learning experiences, children develop the knowledge, skills and understanding required for progression into primary education and later life.
Learning Through Curiosity, Play and Exploration
Play is an essential part of learning in the IEYC. Rather than viewing young children as passive recipients of information, the curriculum recognises them as active participants in their own learning and development.
Learning experiences are carefully designed to capture children’s natural curiosity. Teachers create enabling environments where child-initiated exploration is balanced with purposeful, teacher-scaffolded learning. Learning and development within the IEYC are underpinned by four interconnected Learning Strands:
Independence and Interdependence

Communicating
Children develop their ability to express ideas, thoughts, feelings and experiences through language and a variety of creative and expressive forms.
Enquiring
Children’s natural curiosity is nurtured through observation, exploration, investigation, questioning and problem-solving, encouraging them to become active and thoughtful learners.
Healthy Living and Physical Well-being
Children develop an understanding of healthy choices, physical development, movement, personal care and the importance of emotional and physical well-being.
Together, these Learning Strands support the holistic development of the child and recognise the interconnected nature of early learning.
A Purposeful Process of Learning
The IEYC focuses not only on what children learn, but also on how they learn. Its Process of Learning begins by capturing children’s curiosity and creating meaningful reasons to explore a theme.
Through carefully planned learning environments, children investigate ideas, engage in practical experiences and express their developing understanding. Opportunities for reflection and celebration allow children to revisit their experiences, make connections and recognise their own learning journey.
Teachers observe, guide, scaffold and reflect on children’s development throughout this process. Assessment is ongoing and is used to understand each child’s progress, interests and emerging capabilities rather than simply measuring learning through formal testing.
